November Alumni Spotlight: Ayline Deras (Northwood High School)

LP shines this month's Alumni Spotlight on Ayline Deras, an alumna of the Northwood High School program in Montgomery County, MD.

Ayline graduated from Northwood High School in Spring 2022 and is one of our most recent recipients of the New Futures scholarship for $7,800! Ayline is going to Montgomery College to pursue a degree in Criminal Justice.

We spoke to Ayline about her journey and her experience in Liberty’s Promise. Here is what he had to say:

“Being part of Liberty’s Promise allowed me to be around non-Spanish speakers, helping me lose my fear of speaking English. Getting to meet a mix of professionals, many of whom were immigrants like me, helped motivate me. Liberty’s Promise also taught me a lot in life as a person that I must fight for my goals, that nothing is impossible, and that we immigrants can also achieve our goals in this country.

My advice to the other alumni is to always have your goals clear, and to take the time to think about what you really want for your life. Where do you see yourself in a few years? What does your ideal life really look like? I will not tell you that it will be easy but I’ll tell you that everything is possible. With a lot of effort and dedication incredible things can be achieved, just do not be afraid and always give your best.”
