March 2021 Quarterly Newsletter

I’m thrilled to be presenting you with our re-vamped LP Newsletter, which you'll now be receiving quarterly. As well as some exciting LP updates, each newsletter will spotlight one of our amazing youth, which I'm sure you'll love reading as much as I do.

In other news, it’s been a long time coming, but, after 15 years, we'll finally produce our first annual report this year, which you should be receiving shortly. The creation of this annual report, especially considering its dramatic timing with world events this past year, has inspired us to think more deeply about where we are as a non-profit, and where we want to be. I hope it will be an enjoyable read for you.

Best wishes,

Robert M. Ponichtera, Ph.D.

Executive Director

Youth Spotlight: Ever, Honduras

This quarter's Youth Spotlight shines bright on Ever, a current student of our Northwood High School program in Montgomery County, MD.

We recently sat down with Ever to find out more about him and his journey.

"I was born in Honduras and moved to the United States in 2018. Currently, I'm in 11th grade at Northwood High School and want to go to college to become an English teacher.

I believe I can get to college if I continue to do my best every day and put in the effort, also to continue being supported by Liberty’s Promise and other super organizations. I have achieved being on the honor roll multiple times during high school, which for me is so important because it shows the person I am as a student and in life."

When asked about the impact his time with LP had made, Ever said:

"Liberty’s Promise helped me to understand how things work in the U.S as an immigrant and see what people are like. They help me identify all the opportunities that there are in this country.

LP has helped me a lot, I’ve been able to improve my English, collaborated with other immigrant students, and also gained leadership skills. My favorite memory of my time with Liberty’s Promise is being elected as the president of the CE-BELL program by my peers. It was a great experience and I really loved it."

We asked Ever if he had any words of encouragement for his peers and newly arrived young immigrants.

"If you are someone who just arrived in the United States, you should know that nothing is impossible. Do not feel lonely if you are a student whose first language is not English! Believe in yourself and if you need help, ask teachers and other students. We are here to support you. You are so intelligent and the only thing you need to be successful in school and life is believing in God and in yourself. Show to the world the greatness that there is in you and the person you are!"

03 | Alumni Stories

Over the past six months, we've had the honor of interviewing our Alumni each month for our new LP Alumni Newsletter.

From Josue, a quarter-finalist of the hit talent show Tengo Talento, Mucho Talento to Jonathan, who recently served on the Elizabeth Warren for President campaign as its National Latino Outreach Director, their stories are incredible and an inspiration, not just to our current youth, but to all of us.
