Dear Reader,
Our spring semester of programs has almost concluded, and our youth have experienced a variety of activities, speakers, and field trips.
Field trips are a crucial component of our work here at Liberty's Promise. Many of our participants do not have the opportunity to venture outside of their immediate community, going from home, to school (maybe to work), and home again. Through these field trips, youth learn how to use public transportation, and get to visit museums, universities, and other community sites for the first time.
Some of the highlights of our field trips this semester have included: Alexandria City High School visiting Fire Station #206 and the AWS Skills Center, and our Fairfax and E.L. Haynes program locations visiting Georgetown University. Baltimore County middle school programs visited the Community College of Baltimore County, Montgomery County youth visited the National Zoo and went to New York City to see the Statue of Liberty, and our Prince George's County programs visited museums on the National Mall.

Now's the time for our seniors to solidify plans for after graduation. While many plan to enter the workforce, or enlist in the armed forces, a number will further their education by enrolling in college or certificate programs! Just last week, four Liberty's Promise students/alumni received the New Futures Scholarship for a total of more than $30,000 between them. The scholarships will allow our youth to pursue an associate degree at an area community college.
With graduation around the corner and planning for summer programs in full swing, we are excited to see what all of our participants will do next! (If you're a graduating senior or program alumni, check below for another local scholarship opportunity)!
Best wishes,

This month's Alumni Spotlight shines bright on Beiris of our CE-BELL program at Northwood High School.
Beiris is one of the amazing alumni who recently received a New Futures Scholarship to study social work at Montgomery College. This is what she had to say about her time in the LP program:
“I came to the states as a quiet, silent, shy, and scared girl. School was the point where I faced the most challenges. When I started the Liberty's Promise program, I learned that I have a voice and I can use it and that I have just as much importance as the citizens of this country.”
