Happy Hispanic Heritage Month!

The Hispanic Heritage month traditionally honors the cultures and contributions of both Hispanic and Latino Americans as we celebrate heritage rooted in all Latin American countries. Did you know?

Hispanic refers to a person who is from, or a descendant of someone who is from, a Spanish-speaking country.

Latino/a or Latinx refers to a person who is from, or a descendant of someone who is from, a country in Latin America.

Let's Meet Our Alumni!

Jennifer Escobar is an alumna of our Liberty's Promise Gaithersburg CE-BELL program. She came from El Salvador at the age of 17 and is currently a graduate student at the University of Maryland, School of Social Work with a concentration in community action and social policy.

Jenny was not only part of Liberty's Promise as a participant, she also served as a facilitator while she was in college, and eventually she became a program officer, where she states having had some of the best experiences with the immigrant youth community. Today, Jenny serves as the Liberty's Promise Alumni Outreach Coordinator and hopes to expand the support she received at LP to program alumni and help them remain part of this diverse, wonderful community.

"Liberty’s Promise was a big part of my success as a student and as an immigrant. I enjoyed every

moment of my experiences with LP from listening to guest speakers who represented me as an immigrant, going on field trips, and eating pizza with friends, to guiding young immigrants to self-advocate and helping them find their path to what they want to achieve in life. Pizza is knowledge"

-Jenny
