LP shines this month's Alumni Spotlight on Edwin Benitez, Alumnus of Wheaton High School, class of 2016.

Edwin is a 2020 Graduate of the University of Maryland, receiving his Bachelors in Accounting.

We spoke to Edwin about his journey and here is what he had to say:

"My experience at Liberty's Promise was truly wonderful and helped shape the rest of my life.

I came to the United States 8 years ago in pursuit of education and freedom. I remember being very shy and uncomfortable speaking in public. Thanks to LP I was able to practice public speaking and learned about leadership skills that helped me during my time in college.

In fact, the skills that I learned in LP helped during my time in the Macklin Business Institute program – a highly selective honors business program at MC. I also contributed business ideas to improve the world and had the chance to present those ideas at a regional competition in Philadelphia.

At UMD, I was part of the Dean’s Students Advisory Council and had the opportunity to work with the Dean. I also served as a mentor and worked on projects to improve the experience of incoming students.

I am currently studying to get my Certified Public Accountant license and work as an accountant at HIP Projects, LLC. My long-term goal is to go to law school and start my own company and provide tax and paralegal services.

My advice for other alumni is to work hard and to keep your dreams in mind because this will give you the motivation to wake up every day and be successful in life!"
