GivingTuesday 2024

On December 3, 2024, people around the globe will come together to tap into the power of human connection and to strengthen communities. This GivingTuesday, join us in supporting immigrant youth as they build new lives and brighter futures here in the United States.

At Liberty’s Promise, we’re committed to helping immigrant youth overcome challenges, connect with resources, and become active, engaged members of their communities. Through our programs focused on civic engagement, college preparation, career exploration, and community involvement, we empower them to achieve their dreams.

By joining the GivingTuesday movement, you’re showing that in times of uncertainty, generosity can unite us all. Are you ready to give? Every contribution counts, helping immigrant youth gain the support they need to succeed and feel at home in their communities.

Evelyn, El Salvador

Evelyn, a student at our program at Roosevelt High School, has quickly become a valued member of Liberty’s Promise, demonstrating both resilience and a strong drive to succeed. What stands out about Evelyn is her quiet determination and her thoughtful approach to overcoming challenges. Since arriving from El Salvador in 2023, she’s navigated language barriers and cultural adjustments with admirable grace, all while pursuing her passion for finance. We spoke with Evelyn to learn more about her journey and the impact Liberty’s Promise has had on her transition to life in the U.S.:

“It’s been a difficult journey for both me and my family, especially because of the language barrier and the cultural differences.

Being a part of Liberty’s Promise has made the transition easier, as I’ve had support learning about college programs related to finance–the career I am interested in!

Through LP, I have also earned the community service hours needed to graduate. More than that, the community offered through LP is invaluable as I have gained new friends and built my confidence, which was hard for me because I’m naturally very shy.

I highly recommend Liberty’s Promise because I have found a lot of support in this program. As an immigrant, we need as much help as we can receive, and LP has taught me about so many opportunities we have here in this country.“

Thanks to the generosity of our community we’re able to support more than 800 immigrant youth like Evelyn each year. Our program provides them with an opportunity for career exploration, giving them the chance to discover the pathways and options for their education and most of all, understand their new community and feel safe and at home in the United States. Unfortunately, our programs are often oversubscribed, and restricted by available resources, that’s why we’re asking for your support this #GivingTuesday!

Josue, Honduras

Josue, a dedicated Liberty’s Promise member, joined the program in 2022, bringing a warm and open-hearted spirit that has quickly made him a positive presence in the community. Since moving to the U.S. from Honduras in 2015, Josue has worked hard to improve his English skills, and Liberty’s Promise has given him a supportive space to grow in confidence. His enthusiasm shines through, especially during hands-on activities like park clean-ups, which combine his love for the environment with community engagement. We sat down with Josue to hear more about his experiences and what Liberty’s Promise has meant to him:

“I moved to the United States from Honduras in 2015, and I joined Liberty’s Promise in 2022. I was still learning English at the time, and Liberty’s Promise gave me a place to express myself without fear. LP helped me to reduce my shyness, allowing me to feel more confident when interacting with new people. I’ve been able to create an unforgettable community.

I like that the program focuses on hands-on activities, field trips, and visits from guest speakers, which range from a variety of careers. One of my favorite memories with LP was participating in a park clean-up event because it was both fun and environmentally beneficial. Furthermore, Liberty’s Promise has provided me with valuable information about college and the best paths to take to achieve my goals.

Advice I’d give to current LP students would be to not be scared to talk to people and enjoy your time in the club. I came for two semesters, but I wish I had been told about it sooner. Let your inside kid be free and forget about school because this is a free space where you can be yourself!”

Your generous contribution this #GivingTuesday goes directly towards supporting underserved immigrant youth. By pledging your support, you are advocating for change and making a direct impact. Every dollar counts, and makes a tremendous difference to the lives of the young people we serve.
